CUT ART is a Riga-based gallery that serves as a hub for both art enthusiasts and inquisitive minds alike. It presents a unique fusion of Latvian and international artists, ranging from emerging talents to established masters. Through participation in global projects, the gallery has earned recognition as a significant presence on the international art scene.

The thoughtfully curated exhibition features artworks by five distinctive artists: Julia Silova, Robert Whitman, Alina Burlakova, David Lynch and Edgars Nikolajevs. Each artist contributes their unique perspective and creative vision to the hotel’s historic setting.

•    Julia Silova, a graduate of the Art Academy of Latvia, presents a signature synthesis of classical painting and surrealistic abstraction. Working primarily in oil and charcoal, she transforms the nude form into transcendent compositions that challenge the boundaries of perception. Her pieces explore semantic satiation, where repetition becomes a tool for both the destruction and reconstruction of meaning.

•    Robert Whitman, a New York-based photographer, captures fleeting visual moments that define memory itself. His signature style blends youthful energy with evocative movement, whether through the precision of a controlled studio or the spontaneity of the streets. As art critic George Berges observes, Whitman’s images offer ‘glimpses of a moment’ that trigger personal memories unique to each viewer.

•    Alina Burlakova has a figurative approach to expressing abstract concepts, drawing inspiration from unconscious doodling and automatic drawing techniques used in psychoanalysis. Her work reflects the paradoxes of contemporary life and influence of digitalisation, balancing serious commentary with a post-ironic, playful tone.

•    David Lynch is an Academy Award-nominated director, artist, musician, photographer and long-time practitioner of transcendental meditation. His work is lush, dark and often shot through with violence. Reflecting on his creative process, he once remarked: “I used to go to well-lit diners, because in a well-lit diner I could sit and think and daydream and I could go to dark places knowing that I could surface in a well-lit, safe place.”

•    Edgars Nikolajevs, a Latvian artist currently pursuing his Master’s degree at the Art Academy of Latvia, explores themes of mortality, memory and the fragility of existence through painting, sculpture and video. His work examines the psychological and physical influences of our surroundings, offering visual explorations of the human condition from a deeply personal perspective.

The collection is now available for viewing on the first and second floors of Grand Hotel Kempinski Riga, allowing guests to engage with these exceptional artworks as they move through the hotel’s public spaces and corridors.

Each piece has been thoughtfully placed to inspire moments of contemplation and discovery, transforming the hotel’s elegant interiors into a living gallery.
