A €75 million luxury hotel complex with only 17 rooms has opened its doors in Tallinn

The Burman, an exclusive new hotel, has officially opened in Tallinn’s Old Town. It is part of a high-end hotel, restaurant, and entertainment complex developed by Bombay Group at a cost of €75 million.

“It is our goal to provide each guest with an unforgettable experience they will want to share with their friends,” is how Dajana Tiitsaar, COO of Bombay Group, sums it up in one sentence. She believes The Burman Hotel and Bombay Club will become a coveted travel destination. “For a true citizen of the world, Tallinn is a great place to stay, offering enough privacy in all its modernity. The Burman, a hotel with 17 rooms, including five suites and two signature suites, is located in a building that dates back to the 15th century and has operated as a hotel since 1850. The complex includes the Bombay Club with 11 tables of classic casino games and guests can also enjoy three high-end restaurants: Écrin, Koyo, and Shang Shi, along with the Maison Francois bakery, a whiskey and wine bar with a cigar lounge Fox Den, The Peacock Lounge cocktail bar, and the Velvet music salon.

Anton Jolkin, Head of Hospitality at Bombay Group, highlights the importance of personalized service. “A modern, international high-end hotel must ensure the best service at all times. Even if we only have a few dozen guests, we will have more than a hundred employees in the house at peak times to hours to ensure every detail is taken care of,” Jolkin says, adding that the Bombay Group employs nearly 400 people in Estonia from 42 different nationalities. “Our diverse team helps us understand our guests' expectations and deliver an exceptional experience,” Jolkin emphasizes.

Kristiina Piiskoppel, the F&B Manager at Bombay Club, says that well-traveled and experienced guests expect freshness, versatility, in a flawless setting. “That’s why we are not just opening three completely different unique restaurants, but we have also invested in an extensive wine selection, a bakery, and other premium offerings,” she explains. The Burman is currently the only hotel in Tallinn that offers 24/7 room service.

The thorough renovation of the 5,000 square meter complex located in the immediate vicinity of the Town Hall Square, which complied with all heritage protection requirements to a great extent, lasted more than five years, several dozen Estonian companies contributed to it and an estimated total of more than five thousand people involved.

The Burman is a private and luxurious hotel with 17 hotel rooms in the Tallinn Old Town on Rataskaevu Street. This building that dates back to the 15th century has housed hotels under different names since 1850. The building got its modern design in the 1930s by architect Karl Friedrich Burman and the newly built hotel has been named after him as a tribute.

Bombay Club - a classic table game casino with 11 tables, located in the heart of a unique hotel, restaurant and entertainment complex. The club is located in a building completed in 1878 and now renovated to its tiniest details, which housed the legendary restaurant Du Nord in the last century.

The Burman Spa is located on the ground floor of the building, with two private spa treatment rooms next to the steam room, jacuzzi and Japanese bath beneath the centuries-old vaults.

Écrin is a modern European fine dining restaurant led by chef Alexey Aleksandrov. It also serves wonderful breakfast for hotel guests.

Koyo omakase offers Japanese gastronomic experiences and an ever-changing menu that strives for seasonal freshness and dishes are prepared and served by chef Kazuto Hokari. The restaurant accommodates up to 11 guests at a time.
Shang Shi is a fine dining restaurant serving the cuisine of the Cantonese region in South China, whose delicious dishes are prepared under the leadership of Michelin-starred chef Chee Hwee Tong.

Maison Francois is a Franco-Belgian boulangerie on Dunkri Street, where third-generation baker Francois Arnould produces delicacies based on family heritage that bring out the best in the art of baking.

Fox Den is located in a 15th-century cellar, where the former rooms of the legendary tavern and later bar Rebaseurg now offer an exclusive selection of digestifs in addition to the wine cellar and cigar room.

The Peacock Lounge, an elegant speakeasy-style cocktail bar, is open in the evening hours, located on the highest floor of the Bombay Club and serves a wide range of classic and signature cocktails in the evenings.

Velvet is an exclusive entertainment and music salon, where various special events and concerts take place in the late evening hours, as well as dance evenings accompanied by music chosen by the DJ.

Five Interesting Facts
#1: The Burman’s lobby chandelier was custom-made by Ricardo Lighting (Hong Kong). It stands eight meters tall, weighs around 300 kilograms, and features 75 birds inspired by the swallow, along with 180 small and 30 large glass ornaments.
#2 The bedding in all hotel rooms is custom were made exclusively for The Burman by Treca, a
French manufacturer with a history of nearly a hundred years.
#3 The roulette wheels of the Bombay Club are made by the highly respected British manufacturer Cammegh and feature unique golden handcrafted statues that bring luck.
#4: The peacock, a symbol of prosperity and well-being, is a recurring design motif at both The Burman and Bombay Club.
